NCBI Scholar
(formerlly known as Pubmed Citations)
Current Version: 0.31 (see version history)
This script takes each result in a PubMed search and then queries Google Scholar to get the number of times it has been cited. Then it places a link with this info next to each search result, linking to the citations in Google Scholar.
You need to install the Greasemonkey Firefox extension to run this script.
Then you can install the NCBI Scholar script here.

This script may stop working after a while and that’s because Google thinks you are a virus or malware and will shut you out. PubMed will still work fine, but you will stop getting citation links next to your results. If that happens, I’ve found this to work (in Firefox):
1. Go to Tools -> Options… -> Privacy tab -> Show Cookies…,
2. Find the google.com cookie and delete it.
3. Then go to Google Scholar and try a search. You should get a screen telling you that you were blocked and to enter a sequence of letters from an image. That should do the trick.
4. Go back to PubMed and continue searching!
Upcoming features:
- H-index calculation
- Sort by number of citations

Any chance this can be made to work with other search queries such as ABI/Inform. I do mostly business research and having the number of results show up with my results would be fantastic.

I probably would not be able to adapt this script to ABI/Inform since I do not have access to that database, but thanks for your interest.

I find your script to be very useful. Is there any way to add an additional link next to the “Cited by X” which will take me to the Google Scholar entry for that specific publication?

I installed the script and it’s running, but isn’t returning any results. It says it is searching but then just puts a link to do the google scholar search. When I click on the link the article is normally the first in the list and the cited by information is with it. It isn’t showing up in pubmed though. I cleared cookies and tried again with no success. Any suggestions?
Thanks

thanks for the heads-up, RLO. It seems that there was either a Pubmed or Google Scholar site redesign that broke my script. I will get on a fix soon

Any word on a fix for the script yet? Thanks.

I tried for the following paper published in August 7, 2007.
Vinod P. Sharma. Battling malaria iceberg with chloroquine in India. Malaria Journal. 2007,6:105.
Unfortunately I was unable to get any information. Would deeply appreciate a simple procedure of getting the information.

I installed it but is not working. Possibly, because of the new PubMed design
Thanks
